In this project I worked with a teammate to design and analyze the safety of a curved hinge mechanism to support a fold out bed in a camper van. The hinge uses a stopper pin in the upper piece to stop motion at a desired angle. We first performed hand calculations to get an estimate of forces, and then developed the model inside the Abaqus FEA program. We iterated the design until we achieved our desired safety factor of 1.5.
